One of my interest regarding sound is the creation of new timbres that even do not exist in nature. That is why sound synthesis is a very appealing approach to generate new ones and compose music with a wide range of possibilities.

Synthember is about showing the previous and new sound synthesis knowledge acquired for creating this new sounds and use them in a musical performance. It is inspired in the Inktober, in which ” Every October, artists all over the world take on the Inktober drawing challenge by doing one ink drawing a day the entire month” as the website states.

Together with musicians friends, we proposed Synthember starting at November 2019 without specific challenges since it is the first time it was done, just free topics for each day. The statement is as follows:

#Synthember is an initiative in which an audio track is created by using sound synthesis techniques, and shared each day of November. It might use an electronic, electroacoustic, or mechanical approach, algorithmic composition, or hybrid strategies.

As Inktober, the idea is to upload their excerpt with the hashtag #synthember and a description about what it is shown in any social network. In this way, others will be able to watch and listen the tracks from the participants. This is an opportunity to find new collaborators and inspire ourselves to compose music by using sound synthesis.

My contribution for this first edition of Synthember 2019 is here. The video below is the last day with the most complex performance that I did compared to the other days.

#synthember Day 30: Performance 4, I named this composition “Eden 2”. I used digital synthesizers, prerecorded samples, my granular synthesizer GSynthSky, an electric guitar, and my voice with effects. This is the last day of such amazing month, I hope to continue the next year with #synthember 2020
